About a week ago I wrote a column for MSN TV called: ‘Has Eastenders Become A Joke‘, due on the fact that- in my opinion- the programme has turned into a gimmicky and implausible pantomime.
A lot of people disagreed and I almost started to feel bad…until the trailer for Sharon/Letitia Dean’s return was released.
It shows a huge CGI tornado blowing into the Square as people cower inside the Queen Vic. Then, Sharon wafts down from the sky in a wedding dress while Phil Mitchell peers at her, confused, through the rain-streaked windscreen of his car.
He’s probably not sure he can believe his eyes because of all that crack he took that time.
Sharon then lifts her veil like a virginal Wicked Witch of the West and surveys the devastation.
You just don’t get this kind of overblown, bombastic promotion for Coronation Street. Can you imagine Ken Barlow flying around the Rovers Return while Roy points and gawps and prods Hayley? It wouldn’t happen (even in a trailer), because Corrie is SENSIBLE.
Well, sort of.
